My husband treated us to a little staycation. As expats, we don’t get to visit our nearest and dearest on weekends so we usually embark on a local escapade to spend time together as a family. It might have only been one night this time but it’s not the last The Ritz-Carlton in Doha will see of us. It must have been the most memorable and luxurious hotel we have ever stayed in on our travels.
Allow me to share our experience with you…
We were received by an ambience of luxury and comfort as the valet staff opened our doors and parked our car. As we entered the lobby we were welcomed by a musky luxurious scent that sent my senses soaring. We experienced an immediate feeling of friendliness as we made our way to reception where we checked in for an experience of a lifetime.
Our room was magnificent. A staff member escorted us to our floor and gave us a tour of our room. It was equipped with a comfortable bed, a flat screen TV, a seating area, a little crib for the baby, a mini bar, nespresso coffee station, air-conditioning and a spectacular balcony view. We didn’t touch any snacks or drinks in the mini bar because it was chargeable goodies and instead chose to use the pool bar. We did however enjoy our complementary water.
The whole room took my breath away but the bathroom stole my heart. It’s definitely inspired me to recreate the exact same feel in our future home. It was completely tiled in a marble finish with a toilet, spacious shower and a deep and relaxing bath. It was stocked up with all the usual amenities needed. I treated myself to a nice long soak in the bath and it was amazing to have that little bit of me time while my husband entertained our little girl.
The hotel was designed to give every room a view. We were on the 12th floor and our room had an awesome panaramic view that overlooked the pool area, the beautiful Arabian sea, their private island and the Pearl. These pictures do not do justice.
After we finished having a look around the room we changed into our swimwear and quickly made our way to the swimming pool. We got lost en route but the hospitable staff led us in the right direction. We absolutely loved being embraced by lush greenery, palm trees and flowers, as we entered the outdoor area. We chose a cabana styled seating arrangement with a double lounger, pillows, side table and shade. Since it was scorching hot we needed all the cool shade available. The pool staff brought us a cooler bag packed with ice-cold water and our towels for the day. Our seating area was close to the pool which came in really handy because we were feeling really hot and needed cooling immediately. After a refreshing dip in the pool we enjoyed a light lunch with mocktails and dessert.
We worked up quite an appetite as the day went into night. After a brief recess we decided to have dinner at one of the many restaurants located inside the hotel, Porcini. It is best described as Italian cuisine. I was captivated by the romantic lighting, table wear and opened planned kitchen as we entered the restaurant. It was fascinating to watch the world-class chefs in their element. The menu was short and sweet which I loved. I was a little disheartened that I couldn’t have my pick at anything as my alcohol-free diet wouldn’t allow it. However, I later found out that they were willing to prepare my dish without alcohol had I wished. I decided on risotto and my husband went with a chicken dish. Excuse the vagueness as I can’t remember the exact names of the dishes. We were surprisingly impressed by the presentation of our meals. It was truly a fine dining experience. It was so filling too that we had no place left for dessert. Straight after dinner we headed back to our cosey room to retire for the night.
The next morning, urged by our growling stomachs we swiftly made our way to the breakfast dining restaurant, The Lagoon. I knew we were in for a tantalising experience because there was an array of different cuisine to ignite every taste bud. We tucked into the deliciousness almost immediately, taking turns to watch the little munchkin who was also patiently waiting for her yummy treats. After all, it’s not everyday that we get to eat this indulgently. I raided the waffle and pancake station while my husband enjoyed the pastries. But don’t let this fool you because we went for seconds and thirds as we made our way around the varies food stations.
And just like that, all good things come to an end. The hotel in general was meticulously taken care of, there was plenty of staff around to help if need be and it is a wonderful hotel for families. I did not get to use the indoor pool or spa facilities even though I really wanted to enjoy some of their locally inspired treatments.
