I was tagged by a fellow blogger to do the #RockingMotherhood challenge. At first I was so excited to list the things I do that make me great (because that’s all I ever talk about when I am having a little domestic with my husband) but I quickly realised that I don’t actually know what makes me good at motherhood. Most days I just wing it really.
I asked my husband to name ten things that make me good at being a mother.
He said, you’re committed, determined, passionate, loving, cheerful, sentimental, full of emotion and love unconditionally.
That wasn’t TEN but it really made me smile. So, because I have a lack of words – I’ve decided to use pictures to portray my motherhood style. After all, pictures speak louder.
10 Ways I Rock Motherhood Everyday – Dhillondeeds
I have many roles. I juggle being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and blogger daily. I knew I wanted to be a stay-at-home mum but I didn’t realise how hard it was going to be. Being someone’s everything is out of this world, running a household is harder with a baby and trying to maintain a meanful marriage can get challenging at times – you get 5 minutes a day to cry LOL and then you’ve got to be gangster (for lack of a better word) and I’m rocking it!
I co-sleep. It’s what we do, Nabiha absolutely loves it and it is what I need to ensure a goodnights rest for both of us. It was never the plan but I am rocking it!
I enjoy it all. As a new mum I can get very upset when things so horribly wrong. I have had vomit in places I do not wish to mention and poo on myself more times than I want to recall in a day but I am rocking it!
I take time out for myself and that’s OK. It’s not always easy to find time in a day for me but every little bit helps even if it’s just getting in time to rub bio-oil on myself. Self-care is imperative and I am rocking it!
I take her on adventures, all the time. She’s also very blessed to have crossed a few boarders already. Most days it’s for me to shake off cabin fever and dealing with a crying baby in a car seat but every outing is a learning experience for me and her, and I am rocking it!
I play with her, all day. As challenging as it is to entertain her at this age I make sure to spend quality time with her by being extra creative with activities and I am rocking it!
I am still breastfeeding! Thankfully. It hasn’t been easy but it’s rewarding and one of my biggest achievements. I love bonding in this way with her. Having to learn how it’s done to overcoming my anxiety about public breastfeeding, I’ve come so far and I am rocking it!
I love making prepared meals and I am really good at it. It’s convenient, it helps me control my portions and makes sure I’m eating well and I am rocking it!
As expats it gets hard to see family and friends as much as we would like too but I do my best to maintain international relationships with grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends through social media and FaceTime calls, and I am rocking it!
And then, just truly believing in my ability to mother in a loving, kind, honest, God abiding way. After all, I did grow my little girl, I birthed her and now I am raising her to be a kind human. This is my life role, it didn’t come with a manual but everyday I wake up and it’s a new day of discovery, sharing my experiences and helping others mums – even if it’s just lending a listening ear.
Thank you to Dilraz from Mommy Dil for nominating me to do this challenge. Her blog is filled with amazing parenting information. She’s been my online “mommy” since my move to sunny Doha and I am so happy our paths have crossed.
